Cambus driving near Pentacrest

There’s a new bus route to make it easier for students living on the west side of campus to make it to class.

The University of Iowa transportation service Cambus will inaugurate the West Dorm Shuttle, beginning Aug. 24, connecting the new Petersen Residence Hall and neighboring residence halls with the east side of UI’s campus.

The buses will run every 15 minutes from the residence hall cluster on the west side to the east side of campus, looping around the Pentacrest before returning across the river to the west side. Buses will run weekdays from 9:15 a.m. to 5:58 p.m. during the fall and spring academic semesters.

The new route was created to meet expected ridership demand brought on by the approximately 500 students living in the new Petersen Residence Hall, which opened this month. Current routes, including the Red and Blue lines, Hawkeye Interdorm, and Interdorm, will not be affected, said Brian McClatchey, Cambus manager.

“We strategically designed this route for pre- and post-class times,” McClatchey says, explaining that West Dorm Shuttle buses are timed to pick up students from the dorms and get them to classes in time and to ferry them after classes back to their living quarters.

The buses will share the same stops at Rienow and Slater residence halls as other routes serving the west side, McClatchey says.

Stops served by West Dorm Shuttle are:

  • #2081  Slater Hall
  • #2085  Law Building
  • #1051  Communications Center
  • #0125  IMU
  • #0120  Macbride Hall
  • #1030  Clinton/Iowa
  • #0001  Schaeffer Hall
  • #1050  Main Library
  • #2080  Rienow Hall
