A guided media tour of the University of Iowa’s new Mary Louise Petersen Residence Hall, 304 Grand Ave., will begin at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, and will wrap up before the start of the 2 p.m. dedication ceremonies.

Building Tour: The guided tour will begin at Black’s Gold Grill, on the lower level of Petersen Hall off Grand Avenue. The tour will include the hall’s gathering areas and the Theodore M. Rehder Residential Learning Commons on the first floor, and several student resident rooms will be open to shoot visuals. Leading the tour will be Von Stange, assistant vice president for student life and senior director of university housing and dining.

Please be at Black’s Gold Grill by 1:15 p.m. to participate in the tour. The tour will last 20-30 minutes.

Dedication ceremony: Begins at 2 p.m. in the multi-purpose room on the first floor of Petersen Hall. Scheduled to speak are: UI President Sally Mason; Milt Dakovich, member of Board of Regents, State of Iowa; Tom Rocklin, vice president for student life; Lynette Marshall, president and CEO of the University of Iowa Foundation; Von Stange; Alison Moss, UI student who will be part of Petersen Hall’s first resident assistant team; and Mary Louise Petersen, the building’s namesake, a former member and president of the Board of Regents.

A ribbon cutting with the dignitaries will follow in the same room.

A mult box will be available during the ceremony for broadcast media.

The ceremony is the last scheduled public event for Mason as UI president.

Artists media availability: Adam and Dawn Eikamp, the Dubuque artists who created the building’s centerpiece “Scholastic Truth” artwork, will be available for interviews.
