Business students earning an Associate of Applied Sciences (AAS) degree at Kirkwood Community College will be able to transfer more easily into the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business thanks to a new degree program offered by the two schools.

The plan would allow Kirkwood students to earn their AAS degree with a focus on business administration that would allow all of their credits to transfer to the Tippie College of Business. There, the student can complete a Bachelor’s in Business Administration degree.

The plan would allow the students to complete most, if not all, of their general education requirements at Kirkwood and focus on business education classes at Tippie. Kirkwood students must meet all other minimum admission requirements of UI and the Tippie College.

“This strengthens the relationship between Kirkwood College and the University of Iowa, creating a seamless path for students at Kirkwood to earn their business degree at the Tippie College of Business,” says Kenneth Brown, associate dean of undergraduate programs in the Tippie College of Business.

“The AAS degree is an additional path for students interested in transferring to Iowa that fits well with Tippie requirements and includes some additional business options,” says Vicki Vavra, associate director of advising and registration in the Tippie College of Business.

The new degree program takes effect immediately.
