Time-lapse look at campus takes Gold awards in local competition

More than a dozen videos, websites, promotional items, and other work produced by and for University of Iowa units were recognized at the Feb. 28 American Advertising Awards Gala sponsored by the American Advertising Federation of Cedar Rapids-Iowa City.

A time-lapse video documenting the start of fall classes won Gold awards for cinematography and music in the “elements of advertising” category. UI Office of Strategic Communication staff Kirk Murray and Dana Telsrow created the video.

OnMedia TV Advertising also received a Gold award for “Coach,” a TV commercial produced for the UI College of Dentistry.

The annual awards honor creative excellence in the marketing industry. Gold-award-winning projects will advance to regional competition.

Silver awards went to the following UI departments:

  • UI Health Care Marketing and Communications: Game Changing Medicine annual report; Medicine Iowa magazine winter 2014-15 issue; Kidsville News ads; Kid Captain video campaign 2014
  • UI Office of Strategic Communication and UI Information Technology Services: University of Iowa home page and supporting site redesign
  • UI Office of Strategic Communication: “for IOWA” web video series; “Find It” TV spot; “Dust Mite” illustration (Austin Smoldt-Saenz); “Crowd-Surfing Herky” photo (Tim Schoon); “Old Capitol in Fog” photo (Tim Schoon)
  • University of Iowa Foundation: 2014 Annual Report on Giving to the University of Iowa; 2014-15 University of Iowa outreach video (with de Novo Alternative Marketing)

Silver awards to agencies that developed work for UI units included:

  • Benson and Hepker Design, Mobile Museum graphics for the UI Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development
