Iowa City Heart Center, P.C. to join UI Health Care

Iowa City Heart Center, P.C., a highly regarded cardiology group serving eastern Iowa patients and families since 1987, will join University of Iowa Health Care, effective April 30.

Comprised of cardiologists and advanced registered nurse practitioners, as well as medical support and administrative staff, Iowa City Heart Center provides heart care services at its Iowa City location at 540 E. Jefferson St. and outreach clinics in Dubuque, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Mount Pleasant, and Washington, Iowa.

“For over 25 years, our commitment has been to offer extraordinary care and service to patients in Johnson County and communities across southeast and eastern Iowa. We’re very proud of our success,” says Linda Lee, cardiologist and president of Iowa City Heart Center. “To further enhance our services requires close collaboration with a comprehensive health care system like the University of Iowa. All of our group’s providers have close and wonderful historical connections to the University of Iowa, and this step makes a lot of sense for our patients, our colleagues, and the community.”

Iowa City Heart Center patients can expect to continue receiving the same high quality heart care, with the added benefit of access to the services of an academic medical center, according to Barry London, director of the cardiovascular medicine division in the UI Department of Internal Medicine.

“For patients and their families this means enhanced access to the newest, most advanced treatments, technologies, and specialty clinics for complex cardiac disorders,” London says.

Phillip Horwitz, medical director of the UI Heart and Vascular Center, noted that the combination of expertise and services will benefit local communities.

“By combining our resources, we will be able to offer exceptional heart care to even more patients in Iowa and western Illinois. We are truly excited by the possibilities that this new relationship presents,” Horwitz says.
