The University of Iowa will repair the pulley system used to raise and lower the U.S. and State of Iowa flags above the Old Capitol Museum over the upcoming academic holiday break.

Repairs will require the use of a crane and the activity will be less disruptive to campus over the break, when many people are out of town.

Both flags were lowered Dec. 5 in preparation for raising the U.S. flag to half-staff in honor of that weekend’s anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. In the process, the rope became stuck.
