The following events have been planned in recognition of Veterans Day on the University of Iowa campus:

Saturday, Nov. 8

11:30 a.m. – Flag placement on the Pentacrest

The University of Iowa Veterans Association (UIVA), joined by volunteers from the Upward Bound program and Alpha Phi Omega sorority, will place flags on the West Lawn of the Pentacrest.

Monday, Nov. 10

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – A staffed table will be positioned close to the flag display to help patrons find flags of friends and relatives and to promote Veterans Day activities. (Update: Due to the cold temperatures, the UIVA has decided not to staff a table.)

Tuesday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day

8 a.m. – Veterans Day Reveille and Opening Ceremony

The ceremony will be held at the Old Capitol. A bugler will play reveille at 8 a.m. while the UIVA raises a flag that once flew over the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan.

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – A staffed table will be positioned close to the flag display to help patrons find flags of friends and relatives and to promote Veterans Day activities.

3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. – Panel Discussion: The Future of Health Care for Veterans

As part of Hancher Auditorium's Worth Fighting For Liz Lerman residency events, the Forkenbrock Series on Public Policy presents The Future of Health Care for Veterans. The panel discussion will examine the challenges of meeting the needs of aging veterans, rural services, veteran mental health, and other issues. 5 p.m. – Retreat and Closing Ceremony

The ceremony will be held at the Old Capitol. A bugler will play retreat at 5 p.m. while the UIVA takes down the flag and presents it to a special guest.

Nov. 13, 14, and 15

7:30 p.m. –Healing Wars, a performance created and directed by by Liz Lerman, will be shown at Space Place Theater. For more information, visit: hancher.uiowa.edu/ lerman
