As the nation’s health care delivery system continues to expand and evolve, increasingly complex skills are required to ensure Americans enjoy access to high-quality, cost-effective health services. A new University of Iowa master's degree program, formally approved Thursday, Oct. 23, by the Iowa Board of Regents, will equip students with advanced training in health policy analysis to meet this growing demand.

The new Master of Science in Health Policy degree program will:

  • Prepare students with a range of qualitative and quantitative skills to analyze and evaluate health policy content, formation, implementation, and outcomes.
  • Facilitate expanded student involvement in research, policy analysis and engagement, dissemination, and outreach activities.
  • Train students for careers in government relations, policy analysis, and health services research in a variety of private and public settings. It is also designed to prepare students for further study at the doctoral level.

The new degree will be offered by the Department of Health Management and Policy in the UI College of Public Health beginning in spring 2015.
