Faculty—
Carol Fischer, postdoctoral research fellow in the College of Dentistry, has received a two-year funding contract from the National Institutes of Health Clinical Loan Repayment Program of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
The contract will allow Fischer to continue work on her research project, "A Predictive Model of an Oral Inflammatory Response."
Leonardo Marchini, assistant professor in the College of Dentistry, has received a two-year Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation grant for his research, "Iowa Nursing Facility Oral Hygiene Intervention: A Pilot Study."
Lyombe Eko, associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received a gold medal and certificate of recognition for his book, New Media, Old Regimes: Case Studies in Comparative Communication Law and Policy.
Students—
Margaret Burchianti, a third-year student in the College of Nursing, was recently named to the 2014 Class of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Board of Directors Student Scholars.
Alumni—
Almost Pioneers: One Couple’s Homesteading Adventure in the West, published by John Fry (Ph.D. '02), received a publication award from the Wyoming State Historical Society. The award will be presented at the society's annual meeting on Sept. 6 in Gillette, Wyoming.
Keri Sukowatey (B.A., '03) has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for the Dominican Republic on Aug. 19 to begin training as a youth in development volunteer.
Jennifer Croft (M.F.A., '03) has been selected to receive a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Literature Translation Fellowship to support the translation into English of the Polish novel Runners.
Katherine Weno (D.D.S. '91) has been appointed director of the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion's Division of Oral Health.
