The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free performance by the UI Women’s Chorale and Camerata at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, in the Iowa Memorial Union Ballroom.

The Women’s Chorale will be conducted by Doctor of Musical Arts candidate Sara Blessing. The program will include:

  • The Nightingale by Thomas Weelkes
  • Petites voix by Francis Poulenc
  • Weary Wind of the West by Edward Elgar
  • Fly, Singing Bird by Edward Elgar
  • Revelation by Z. Randall Stroope
  • Nigra Sum by Pablo Casals
  • Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal, arr. Alice Parker
  • Untraveled Worlds by Paul Halley

Camerata will be conducted by David Puderbaugh, assistant director of choral activities. The program will include:

  • Tulesõnad by Veljo Tormis
  • Nostalgia by Tormis
  • Kutse Jaanitulele II by Tormis
  • Die Beredsamkeit by Franz Joseph Haydn
  • Aus dem Danklied zu Gott by Haydn
  • Die Harmonie in der Ehe by Haydn
  • Selections from Samson by George Frideric Handel (“Glorious hero,” “Let the bright seraphim,” “Let their celestial concerts all unite”)
  • Old Time Religion by Moses Hogan
  • Live-a-Humble by Peter Bagley

Women's Chorale is a select chorus of 40 women, and presents three to four concerts per year. Camerata is a select ensemble of 50 to 70 singers open to both UI students and the greater community.

The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
