Unprecedented level of participation achieved in staff fundraising campaign

The UI Foundation and UI Alumni Association staff held their third annual campaign to encourage employee giving in support of the University of Iowa from April 21-25, in the Levitt Center for University Advancement,

The effort—called We Are Levitt. We Are Phil.—achieved 100 percent participation this year, meaning all 208 individuals who worked full time at the Levitt Center during the campaign made a gift in FY14 to support some area of the UI.

Employees directed their gifts to support programs, organizations, and initiatives on campus that each finds meaningful—including student scholarships, academic programs and colleges, Hawkeye athletics, research, facilities, the arts, libraries and museums, faculty, and more.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our staff and their personal commitment to advance the mission of our great university,” says Lynette Marshall, president and CEO of the UI Foundation.

Staff invited participation in a number of ways, including bringing in speakers from campus to share information about their programs; hosting a mini art exhibit in the building to showcase the work of students and faculty members; arranging for local food trucks to set up during the lunch hour to bring people together; and offering casual-attire days to everyone who gave.

The campaign was led by a committee of staff members from both organizations and chaired by Mundi McCarty, the UI Foundation’s director of development for the UI College of Pharmacy; Diane Baker, who directs the Iowa Voyagers program for the UI Alumni Association; and Sara Ring, account services administrator at the UI Foundation.

The UI Alumni Association and UI Foundation now lead all UI colleges and units in participation percentage, and they have collectively donated $131,414.57 in support for the UI this fiscal year.
