Deloitte preparing to return to campuses

Following is an update on Rising to the Next TIER, the transformation and efficiency study of Iowa’s public universities commissioned by the Iowa Board of Regents.

Check the University of Iowa’s TIER website for weekly updates, and submit recommendations for the study online.

Now in week 7 of the 10-week Phase 1 TIER project, Deloitte Consulting is working to schedule follow-up visits to the campuses to meet with the presidents and other campus representatives.

Deloitte plans to visit Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa during the week of May 5, and the University of Iowa during the week of May 12.

Deloitte is also working to schedule initial meetings with campus “Sounding Boards” during this time period. The Sounding Board groups, convened by each university president and consisting of faculty, staff, and students, including union representatives, will provide another outlet for Deloitte to continue to receive campus input as the TIER study progresses.

The Deloitte representatives look forward to their return to the campuses and to meet again with university stakeholders, particularly faculty, staff, and students, prior to the end of the academic year. As mentioned previously, while the administrative analysis will continue as scheduled for Phase 2, Deloitte’s analysis of academic areas will slow down during the summer months and ramp back up in the fall to ensure the appropriate level of faculty engagement in the TIER review.

As reported by Regent Larry McKibben at the April 24 Board of Regents meeting, Deloitte will “move toward the academic aspects of this study into the fall and make sure that all of our stakeholders, and our faculty, are heavily involved and deeply involved in the process.”

The Deloitte team is also continuing its analysis of the university data and interview responses as it works to develop a list of potential opportunities to analyze in more detail during Phase 2. These opportunity areas will be announced after the conclusion of Phase 1.
