University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate Zach Savich and Hannah Brooks-Motl will read from their new books of poetry at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Savich will read from Century Swept Brutal. He is the author of Full Catastrophe Living, Annulments, The Firestorm, The Man Who Lost His Head, and a book of prose, Events Film Cannot Withstand. He teaches at the University of Arts in Philadelphia and co-edits Rescue Press's Open Prose Series.

Savich’s poems, essays, and reviews have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including A Public Space, Colorado Review, The Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, and Best New Poets 2008.

Brooks-Motl will read from her new book from Rescue Press, The New Years. Peter Gizzi says of the book, “Hannah Brooks-Motl can write a killer line and her stunning voice is alive turning every which way. This brilliant book, her first book, is a gem.

Brooks-Motl holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and is the author of a chapbook, The Montaigne Result.

The Iowa Writers’ Workshop is a graduate program in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
