Jason Urban, printmaking alumnus of the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will speak at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Art Building West. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Urban is an artist, writer, designer, curator, and teacher living and working in Austin, Texas. Originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Urban earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa., and then a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. His prints, drawings, paintings, and installations have been featured in numerous venues both nationally and internationally.

Currently, Urban teaches printmaking and foundations at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to his current appointment, he was assistant professor of art at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he was head of the printmaking area. Additionally, Urban taught at a number of schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Tyler School of Art (Temple University), Maryland Institute College of Art, Hussian School of Art, Goucher College, and Bucknell University.

Urban is co-founder and contributor of Printeresting, billed as “the thinking person's favorite online resource for interesting printmaking miscellany.” In 2011, Printeresting was awarded a Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. He has also written essays for Art in Print.
