Laurie Anderson will speak at the Englert Theatre Tuesday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. Her lecture is free and open to the public.

Anderson is best known for her multimedia presentations and innovative use of technology. As a writer, director, visual artist, and vocalist she has created groundbreaking works that span the worlds of art, theater, and experimental music.

Her recording career, launched by “O Superman” in 1981, includes the soundtrack to her feature film “Home of the Brave” and “Life on a String” (2001). Anderson's live shows range from the spoken word to elaborate multi-media stage performances such as “Songs and Stories for Moby Dick” (1999).

Anderson has published seven books and her visual work has been presented in major museums around the world. She was the first artist-in-residence of NASA, and has created audio visual installations, films, and performance pieces showcased across the globe.

Currently, Anderson is an artist in residence at the Center for the Art of Performance at the University of California Los Angeles, and at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in Troy, N.Y.

Anderson’s visit is organized by the University Lecture Committee at the University of Iowa, and co-sponsored by the Mission Creek Festival and FilmScene. For more information about Anderson and other upcoming lectures, visit the Lecture Committee website.
