Faculty—
Liz Hollingworth, associate professor and chair of the Educational Leadership Program in the College of Education Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, was selected to serve on the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Policy Board for Education Administration sub-committee to rewrite standards for the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium. The purpose of the project is to better reflect the new roles and responsibilities school leaders face today.
Dr. Sreedevi Srinivasan, assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics in the College of Dentistry, has been awarded a one-year $15,000 Orthodontic Faculty Development Fellowship Award from the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. The award supports the development of junior faculty, to encourage the development of their teaching, patient care, and research activities.
Dr. Satheesh Elangovan, assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics in the College of Dentistry, has been awarded a one-year $14,500 Academy of Osseointegration grant to be used for his research, "An in vitro Assessment of a Tissue Engineering Titanium Surface for Enhanced Peri-Implant Healing."
Madhavan Raghavan, Robert and Virginia Wheeler Faculty Fellow of Engineering, professor of biomedical engineering, and researcher at the Center for Computer-Aided Design and Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging, is the recipient of the 2014 Bioengineering Distinguished Alumni Award from the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
Raghavan received the award at a special banquet March 27 in Pittsburgh, Penn. He received his doctorate in bioengineering in 1998 from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ali Rosenberg, fourth-year student in the College of Business, received the 2014 Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program Grant from the Risk Management Society, recognizing the achievements of outstanding undergraduate and graduate risk management students from around the country.
Dr. Tariq Ghazal, graduate research assistant and graduate student in the College of Dentistry, has been awarded the Leverett Graduate Student Merit Award for outstanding achievement in dental public health.
Ghazal's research, "Prevalence, Incidence, and Risk Factors Associated with Early Childhood Caries among African-American Children in Alabama," received an honorable mention. The award will be presented during the American Association of Public Health Dentistry Special Merit and Student Awards Presentation at the 2014 National Oral Health Conference in Fort Worth, Texas on April 28-30.
Dr. Julie Reynolds, fellow associate in the College of Dentistry, has been awarded the Leverett Graduate Student Merit Award for outstanding achievement in dental public health.
Reynold's research, "Neighborhood and Family Social Capital and the Oral Health of Children in Iowa," received a third-place award. The award will be presented during the American Association of Public Health Dentistry Special Merit and Student Awards Presentation at the 2014 National Oral Health Conference in Fort Worth, Texas on April 28-30.
Jee Hyang Lee, Nanseol Heo, and Junfei Lu, students in the UI Graduate College and Tarrell Awe Agahe Portman, associate professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Supervision in the UI College of Education, were presented with the Association for Adult Development and Aging Outstanding Research Award for the research study, "Qualitative Exploration of Acculturation and Lifespan Issues of Asian American Elderly." The award was given at the American Counseling Association conference March 26-27 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The article, titled "Career influences among final year dental students who plan to enter private practice," is co-authored by Drs. Susan McKernan, Raymond Kuthy, and Fang Qian in the College of Dentistry.
