What: The University of Iowa College of Education's Martin Luther King Jr. Research Symposium

Who: The symposium will highlight 11 poster projects of undergraduate and graduate research. The authors will be presenting their research to a judging panel comprised of four faculty and staff from the UI College of Education. At the award ceremony, UI College of Education Dean Nicholas Colangelo will give a welcome address and Philip Kutzko, a professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Mathematics, will give a keynote address entitled “Becoming America: Dr. King’s Beloved Community.”

When and where: The MLK Research Symposium award ceremony will take place Friday, Feb. 7, in N300 Lindquist Center, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Why: The symposium is an opportunity to exhibit College of Education student research about diversity and service. Posters will cover a variety of topics ranging from religion to disability, and from mental illness to veteran status. The event, which is part of the greater UI Celebration of Human Rights, is free and open to the public.

Background: The Martin Luther King Jr. Research Symposium is an annual event hosted by the College of Education’s Diversity Committee. The UI Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa also sponsors the symposium.
