The City of Iowa City issued the following weather announcement Sunday, Dec. 22, that may impact University of Iowa faculty, staff and students traveling to or from campus.

A snow emergency has been declared for Iowa City, effective Monday, Dec. 23 at 8 a.m. through Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 11:59 p.m. If weather conditions warrant, the snow emergency may be extended beyond Tuesday.

During the snow emergency, on-street parking outside the downtown central business district will be restricted so that snowplows and sand-and-salt crews can get streets cleared as quickly as possible.

Vehicles should be moved off the street and parked in a garage or driveway. If that is not possible, in most cases vehicle owners should follow an "even-odd" system and park on the even-numbered side of the street on even dates, and on the odd-numbered side on odd dates while the snow emergency is in effect, although complete information on parking requirements should be reviewed.

Violators may be ticketed and towed, the cost of which may exceed $200. For complete information on snow emergency declarations, parking requirements, a list of temporary parking locations, what to do if your car is towed, and how to be notified of future Iowa City snow emergencies, visit www.icgov.org/snow.

All Iowa City transit routes will run as scheduled.
