Visiting professor Julie Napolin will discuss the digital humanities Friday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. in the Gerber Lounge, 304 English and Philosophy Building on the University of Iowa campus. The event is free and open to the public.

In her talk, Digital Faulkner: Mapping the Speculative, Napolin will discuss Digital Yoknapatawpha, a project to map every character, location, and event in the 15 novels and 48 stories William Faulkner sets in the mythical Mississippi county of Yoknapatawpha. As the digital humanities re-map our literary encounters, Napolin addresses the speculative territory of digital cartography.

Napolin is an assistant professor of Digital Humanities at Eugene Lang College, the New School for Liberal Arts in New York City. She is currently Associate Editor of Digital Yoknapatawpha online.

This talk is sponsored by the UI Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Digital Studio for Public Arts and Humanities.
