The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by the Tuba/Euphonium Studio at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, in the University Capitol Centre Recital Hall.

The recital will feature solo and ensemble performances by tuba and euphonium students of professor John Manning.

The first half of the recital will consist of works by Marcello, Miles, Haddad, among others. Randil Jeffreys, the studio’s graduate teaching assistant, will perform a special multimedia rendition of "A Night Devoid of Stars" by Meechan, commemorating the life and work of civil rights leader Martin Luther King. Jeffreys has prepared this work for the School of Music SOAR (Series on Arts and Rights) Recital, which will take place on Dec. 10.

The second half will feature three works for tuba/euphonium ensemble performed by the UI ensemble Collegium Tubum. Those works will include and arrangement of "Pavillion March" by Iowa's own Frank Piersol, an arrangement of Barber's "Adagio," and will conclude with an original jazz composition for tuba/euphonium ensemble, "Tubarometer."
