What would it take for you to be famous in your field? This and other questions will be probed as Dean Keith Simonton, an Ida Beam Distinguished Visiting Professor, explores the development of eminence, creativity, genius, and leadership. Simonton will visit the University of Iowa campus Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.

Simonton is a distinguished professor of psychology at the University of California-Davis. He analyzes data concerning famous personalities and their accomplishments in science, philosophy, literature, music, art, cinema, politics, and war. A prolific scholar, he has published more than 450 works and received numerous awards for excellence in his field.

A schedule of events is below. All lectures are free and open to the public. Interested persons are invited to a discussion of Simonton’s book Genius 101 prior to his visit. The discussion will take place Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Prairie Lights Bookstore.

  • "Creative thoughts as acts of free will: A two-stage formal integration," C125 Pappajohn Business Administration Building, Friday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m.

Simonton’s visit is sponsored by the DeLTA Center, the UI Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, the Belin-Blank Center in the College of Education, and the Department of Psychology.
