Ted Anton will talk about great science and nature writing jobs at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of the Glenn Schaeffer Library, adjacent to the Dey House.

Anton is the author of three books and editor of a fourth. His book, The Longevity Seekers: Science, Business and the Fountain of Youth (University of Chicago Press, 2013) follows the science and business race for a drug to extend human health.

His previous book, Bold Science: Seven Scientists Who Are Changing Our World (Henry Holt: 2000, W.H. Freeman, paperback: 2001) told the story of scientific creativity and entrepreneurism. It was an Amazon.com Science Book pick, a Summer Alternate Selection from the Library of Science, and a featured choice on howthingswork.com. The San Francisco Chronicle described is as being “on the pioneering edge of science writing, spreading the notion that is a viable field of literary work.”

Anton is a professor and associate chair of the English department at DePaul University in Chicago, and chair of the Age Studies Executive Committee of the Modern Language Association.

The Iowa Writers’ Workshop is a graduate program in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
