The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the Jerusalem Quartet, one of the world’s most respected string quartets, on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Riverside Recital Hall, located at 405 N. Riverside Drive in Iowa City. The performance will feature music by Mozart, Shostakovich, and Dvorak.

The Jerusalem Quartet formed while its members were students at the Jerusalem Conservatory of Music and Dance. The members’ shared commitment to the music has not only endured, but has propelled them to the highest level of performance. Original members of the quartet include Alezander Pavlovsy, first violin, Sergei Bresler, second violin, and Kyril Zlotnikov, cello. Violist Ori Kam joined the group in 2011, upon the departure of founding member Amihai Grosz.

The Jerusalem Quartet is a record three-time recipient of BBC Music Magazine’s Chamber Music Award, most recently for the ensemble’s CD of Mozart quartets (2012), as well as for recordings of Haydn (2010) and Shostakovich (2007).

For the Hancher performance, the Jerusalem Quartet will perform Mozart’s Quartet in Bb-Major, K 589 ("Prussian"); Shostakovich’s Quartet No 11 in F-minor, Op. 122; and Dvorak’s Quartet in G-Major, Op. 106.

The performance by the Jerusalem Quartet is supported by the Hancher Partners and gifts to the Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Tickets are $35 for nonstudents; $31.50 for senior citizens; and $10 for college students and youth. Tickets are available from the Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Town Center near the parking ramp.

The Hancher Box Office is open for phone, 319-335-1160 or 1-800-HANCHER, or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale one hour before show time at the Riverside Recital Hall.
