In accordance with the transparency measures adopted by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, at its August meeting, the Board Office has scheduled a public hearing to precede the board’s next meeting Sept. 10-11.

The hearing will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the Board of Regents Office, 11260 Aurora Ave., Urbandale. Materials for the September board meeting will be available for review on the Board of Regents website on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at approximately 1 p.m.

Individuals wishing to speak at the public hearing will be asked to complete a sign-in sheet. The order of speakers at the hearing will follow the order on the sign-in sheet. Each individual will have three to five minutes to speak, depending on the number of speakers in attendance. The time period for the hearing can be extended beyond one hour, as determined by the Transparency Officer, to accommodate as many speakers as possible.

Each public hearing will be video recorded and posted on the Board of Regents website. The comments received at each public hearing will be reviewed by the officers of the Board of Regents to determine if any issues or presenters should be placed on a future board meeting agenda.

Attendees who require ADA accommodation, including a sign language interpreter, should contact Sheila Doyle Koppin by Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Individuals who cannot attend a public hearing but wish to comment on the board’s September meeting agenda can provide written comments at the board’s website.

The board will begin scheduling public hearings on the campuses of the universities and special schools prior to its Oct. 23-24 meeting.

The Board of Regents is a group of nine citizen volunteers who govern the state’s three public universities and two special K-12 schools—the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School—through policymaking, coordination, and oversight.
