The University of Iowa School of Music will present “Tony and Friends,” a free performance featuring UI cello faculty member Anthony Arnone, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.

The program will feature:

Brahms Clarinet Trio (Gregory Raden, clarinet; Arnone, cello; Timothy Lovelace, piano)

Mozart Clarinet Quintet (Raden, clarinet; Katie Wolfe, violin I; Jane Price, violin II; Elizabeth Oakes, viola; Kurt Baldwin, cello)

Brahms G major Sextet, Opus 36 (Suzanne Beia, violin I; Price, violin II; Christine Rutledge, viola I; Oakes, viola II; Arnone, cello I; Baldwin, cello II)

Arnone has collaborated with many of today’s great chamber ensembles and artists, including members of the Pro Arte Quartet, Cypress Quartet, Fry Street Quartet, and Arianna Quartet. Performances have taken him around the United States and Europe to many of the leading concert venues as soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. An avid performer of the Bach Suites, Arnone wrote and self-published his own edition of the 6 Cello Suites with a composed second cello “Continuo” part to aid in teaching and performance.

And the “friends”: Baldwin is the only remaining founding member of the Arianna Quartet; Beia is in the Pro Arte Quartet at UW/Madison; Lovelace teaches at the University of Minnesota; Raden has been principal clarinetist of the Dallas Symphony for many years; and Wolfe, Oakes, and Rutledge are on faculty at the UI School of Music.

The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
