Performers auditioning at the University of Iowa for the first time should join the Audition Workshop, 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Theatre B in the UI Theatre Building.

Casting will be announced starting at 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, with several shows beginning rehearsals on Monday, Sept. 2.

Auditions for UI Theatre productions are open to everyone. For academic considerations, priority is given to theater majors first, and then all other students of the UI. Members of the greater Iowa City community are also strongly encouraged to audition.

"Nontraditional" casting is the norm for all directors in all productions, except those in which race, gender, disability, or age is the explicit issue. Casting is "nontraditional" when all roles in a script are open to casting without bias in terms of race, gender, disability, or age, so long as the actor can fulfill the artistic requirements of the role.

One hundred and fifty six UI students participated in last year’s fall auditions, with 87 roles being cast. There will be more than 60 roles available this semester.

Auditions for spring shows and the Iowa New Play Festival will be held in November.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in these auditions, contact David McGraw in advance at david-mcgraw@uiowa.edu.
