Editor's note: The University of Iowa offers lots to do throughout the year, from arts performances to readings, and lectures to recreation. But sometimes faculty, staff, and students want to explore areas beyond campus. So University Communication and Marketing is publishing a series of "daytripper" stories this summer, pointing to fun, interesting, and uniquely Midwestern destinations within a day's drive of Iowa City.Other stories in the series can be found here.

Every year for five days ending on Labor Day, Mount Pleasant hosts the Old Threshers Reunion. Power is on display every day at the reunion, whether it is horse power, steam power, gas power, or wood power. Every day at noon a Cavalcade of Power Parade showcases every type of power on display.

Daily demonstrations show how the power is used whether well drilling, threshing, corn shelling, or straw baling.

But the reunion is about more than power. Various museums feature old-fashioned printing techniques, quilting, theater, old cars, and more.

The reunion grounds open every day at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. except Monday when they close at 4 p.m.
