Jeff Iseminger, interim vice president for university advancement and marketing at Minnesota State University in Mankato, will visit the University of Iowa campus Thursday as one of three finalists for the UI vice president for strategic communication position.

The position has been filled on an interim basis by Mark Braun, UI President Sally Mason’s chief of staff, since Tysen Kendig left the position in December.

Iseminger will take part in a public forum from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday in 2520 University Capitol Centre.

The other two finalists, whose names will be announced a day prior to their visits, are scheduled to be on campus next week and will also participate in forums on July 15 and 17, respectively.

Iseminger has headed Minnesota State’s integrated marketing program for the past nine years and was named interim vice president for advancement in May.

In his current role he leads 45 employees with a $4.4 million budget in fund raising, alumni relations, special events, integrated marketing, and overseeing the university print shop and radio station. He also serves on the president’s cabinet, is chief liaison to the Minnesota State Mankato Foundation, and oversees the university’s $75 million capital campaign and related communications.

From 2001-2004, he served as director of communications at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England, and he worked in university communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1987-2001 (including as assistant director of the unit starting in 1993).

He holds an M.A. (Jacob K. Javits Fellowship) in journalism and cultural anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.A. (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) in political science from the University of Iowa.

Tom Rocklin, vice president for student life, and Richard Fumerton, a professor of philosophy and past president of the Faculty Senate, are chairing the search committee for the UI position.
