WHAT: Media availability prior to event marking progress toward new art, music, and Hancher facilities

WHO: Rod Lehnertz, director of planning, design, and construction for UI Facilities Management; David Gier, director of the UI School of Music; Steve McGuire, professor of 3-D design and director of the studio division for the UI School of Art and Art History; and Chuck Swanson, director of Hancher

The University of Iowa will mark the start of construction on new arts facilities, and thank the state and federal leaders who made the projects possible, during a Friday, June 14 event on the Pentacrest.

Prior to the event, UI representatives will be available to field questions about the new facilities, which include replacement buildings for School of Art and Art History, School of Music, and Hancher structures destroyed in the flood of 2008.

The day’s main event, Arts and Minds: A Celebration of Partnership, begins at 3:30 p.m. and will include remarks by UI President Sally Mason; Iowa Board of Regents President Bruce Rastetter; state Sen. Bob Dvorsky; state Rep. Vicki Lensing; UI Foundation President and CEO Lynette Marshall; Gier, McGuire, and Swanson; and UI student Jessica Pray.
