...and is here to stay, as UI announces historic campaign
Friday, May 3, 2013

Thursday, May 2, was a big day for philanthropy on the University of Iowa campus, as the UI and the UI Foundation celebrated the second annual Phil’s Day. Short for philanthropy, “Phil” represents all who donate to the university, as well as the students, faculty, and staff who benefit from those gifts.

Using the popular "Phil Was Here ®" logo and theme, many campus buildings were tagged to show the impact philanthropy has at Iowa. UI alumna and longtime contributor Janice Ellig (1968 B.B.A.) gave the Phil’s Day lecture, and students, faculty, and staff were invited to sign thank-you cards, which will be sent to contributors.

The grand finale of the day was the announcement of For Iowa. Forever More: The Campaign for the University of Iowa. The $1.7 billion initiative—the largest fundraising campaign in the state’s history—will dramatically transform learning and discovery at Iowa.
