The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free concert by the choral ensembles Camerata and Kantorei at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union.

Camerata’s repertoire is linguistically and stylistically varied, encompassing six languages and several historical eras. The program begins with jubilant Biblical settings, continues with two nobility-themed works, and concludes with several folk songs from across the globe.

  • Rejoice in the Lord Alway by Henry Purcell
  • The Last Words of David by Randall Thompson
  • Placido è il mar from Idomeneo by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • The Turtle Dove, arr. Ralph Vaughan Williams
  • Gentle Annie, arr. Edwin Fissinger
  • Tonerna, arr. Leland B. Sateren
  • Diu Diu Deng, arr. Chen Yi
  • Mungu Ni Pendo, arr. Robert Gower

Kantorei’s program encompasses music representative of a wide variety of styles and historical musical periods. The program opens with a French chanson and madrigal from the Renaissance, then shifts to a set of four songs representing the dramatic and expressive music of Romanticism, and finally closes with a variety of 20th-century compositions.

  • Soldier, Soldier, Won’t You Marry Me? by Robert DeCormier
  • With a Lily in Your Hand by Eric Whitacre
