An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a weekend stabbing that hospitalized two men early Sunday morning and prompted the University of Iowa to issue a Hawk Alert.

The suspect, Gabriel E. Badding, was taken into custody at 4:30 p.m. Sunday by the Western Illinois University Police Department in Macomb, Ill. Badding, a UI student, was arrested without incident on an Iowa City police warrant.

The Hawk Alert offering a description of the suspect led to several calls to Iowa City police identifying Badding as a possible suspect. An Iowa City police investigation confirmed that Badding was involved in the stabbing and thought to be in Illinois.

One man sustained several stab wounds to the torso during the incident, Iowa City police said. The second victim suffered a deep wound to the upper arm when he attempted to help the first victim.

Iowa City police contacted the Western Illinois University Police, who found Badding’s vehicle on campus and took him into custody.

Badding is charged with willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony, and willful injury, a class D felony. He is in custody at the McDonough County, Ill. jail on a $100,000 bond and awaiting extradition to Iowa.
