The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free performance by the Iowa Brass Quintet, the resident faculty brass ensemble, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.

The program will feature:

  • Sonata “Saint Mark” by Tomaso Albinoni
  • Music for Brass Instruments by Ingolf Dahl
  • Centone No. III by Felix Mendelssohn
  • Encounter by Allen Molineux
  • Bartok for Brass by Bela Bartok
  • Song by Rossen Balkanski
  • Dance by Rossen Balkanski
  • dRUMBA!! by James Stephenson

The quintet will be joined by Jonathan Allen, undergraduate instructor of trombone in the UI School of Music, for the pieces by Dahl, Bartok, and Balkanski.

Members of the Iowa Brass Quintet are Amy Schendel and Laura Saylor, trumpets; Jeffrey Agrell, horn; David Gier, trombone; and John Manning, tuba. Founded in the early 1950s, the quintet has been widely acclaimed for its artistry in the performance of music of all periods and premieres of new compositions.

The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
