The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by guest artist Jessica Mathaes, an award-winning violinst, and Uriel Tsachor, professor of piano in the UI School of Music, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in Riverside Recital Hall.

The program will feature:

  • Baal Shem (Three Pictures of Chassidic Life) by Ernst Bloch
  • Sonata in A Minor, Op. 105 by Robert Schumann
  • Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 18 by Richard Strauss

Hailed by critics as “a master of the Khachaturian violin concerto” (Austin Chronicle) and “a violinist like no other” (New York Times), Mathaes enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, recording artist, educator, and concertmaster of the Austin Symphony. Mathaes has appeared as a soloist throughout the United States and internationally in Europe and Asia. She has been featured with numerous orchestras, including the Austin, Victoria, Bismarck-Mandan, Round Rock, and Northwest Iowa Symphonies, and the Masterworks and National Music Festival Orchestras, among others.

An active concert pianist and a dedicated pedagogue of a large international class at the UI School of Music, Tsachor has appeared in recitals in major venues in Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Cyprus, Israel, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and numerous major U.S. cities. The winner of major competitions such as the Queen Elizabeth and Busoni, Tsachor is a graduate of the Tel-Aviv Academy and the Juilliard School, where he earned his doctorate.
