Réne Lecuona, professor of piano in the University of Iowa School of Music, will perform with cellist Hannah Holman, formerly of the Maia Quartet and now with the New York City Ballet Orchestra and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber.

Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The duo will perform:

  • Sonata for piano and cello in G minor, Op. 5, No. 2 by Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Sonata for cello and piano in C Major, Op. 43, No. 2 by Bernhard Romberg
  • Sonata for cello and piano in Bb Major, Op. 8 by Ernõ Dohnányi

Lecuona has performed throughout South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and the United States. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall with mezzo-soprano Katherine Eberle (a fellow UI School of Music faculty member) and in the Goodman Hall at Lincoln Center with soprano Rachel Joselson (also on faculty in the UI School of Music) earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and was awarded a performer’s certificate at the Eastman School of Music. She received undergraduate and master's degrees at the Indiana University School of Music.

In addition to her work with the New York City Ballet Orchestra, which she joined at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season, Holman is the principal cellist of the Quad City Symphony, a position she has held since 2008. She began her professional career in England playing with the English String Orchestra under Yehudi Menuhin and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Simon Rattle. Her orchestral work also includes serving as assistant principal cello with the Michigan Chamber Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, and the American Sinfonietta.
