About 20 undergraduate students from the University of Iowa will participate in the free, public “Research in the Capitol” activity from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.

The annual spring event invites about 20 students under the auspices of the honors program at each of Iowa’s three Regents institutions—UI, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa—to display research undertaken with the help of faculty mentors in a poster session. Students share specifics of their work with state officials and reporters while discussing the educational and career value of research, as well as its contribution to the state.

UI projects range from engineering an electric car to examining the presence of staph infections in two Iowa populations.

The UI student presenters from Iowa include: Luke Franzen of Arlington, Amanda Irish of Cedar Rapids, Christina Valle of Davenport, Natalie O'Shea of Des Moines, Elise Goodmann or Dubuque, Chun-Sing Huang of Iowa City, Stephen Molitor of Gilman, Hannah Taylor of Mount Pleasant, Thomas Meirick of Protivin, Samantha Skaar of Sheldon, John Jung of Sioux City, Nicole Filloon of Tama, Matthew Boddicker of Tipton, Steven Henning of Waterloo, and Johnathan Kinkyon of West Burlington.

Also: Ryan Loris of Hawthorne Woods, Ill.; Morgan Price of River Forest, Ill.; Yuejia Teng of Beijing, China; and Guanduo Li of Zhengzhou, China.
