Lectures, Night at Museum postponed due to inclement weather

Three University of Iowa Pentacrest Museum events have been rescheduled following postponements last week due to inclement weather.

• The UI Explorers Seminar featuring speakers James Enloe and Ted Marks will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Biosphere Discovery Hub of the Museum of Natural History in Macbride Hall. The event was originally scheduled Feb. 21.

Enloe, UI professor of anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and graduate fellow Marks will present “Middle and Late Stone Age in Arid Southern Africa: Excavations atErbTanks, Namibia.” The talk, free and open to the public, is the first installment of the spring UI Explorers Seminar series, presented by UI Pentacrest Museums and the UI Museum of Natural History.

• Humanities Iowa speaker Hal Chase’s lecture will now be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17. The event will be in the Senate Chamber of Old Capitol Museum. It was originally scheduled for Feb. 21.

Chase, a Des Moines native who grew up in segregated Kentucky, will offer a 15-minute audio-visual presentation titled “Beyond Racism: The Civil War, Emancipation, and the continuing struggle for ‘a new birth of freedom’.” Following his presentation, members of the audience will be invited to participate in a collective conversation, including shared experiences. His talk is sponsored by Humanities Iowa.

• Night at the Museum: Turtles and Tortoises will be held Friday, March 1, although registration is full. The event was originally scheduled Feb. 22.
