The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by tenor Richard Fracker, associate professor of voice and Area Chair of Vocal Arts at the Michigan State University College of Music, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, in the University Capitol Centre Recital Hall in downtown Iowa City.

The recital, titled “Country Cookin’: Musical Cuisines from Around the World,” will feature pianist Alan Nathan, assistant professor of collaborative piano at the MSU College of Music, and Katherine Eberle, mezzo-soprano and professor in the UI School of Music.

The program will include sections such as “English Crumpets” (featuring “In Sherwood lived stout Robin Hood” by Robert Jones), “Irish Stew” (with Frederick Weatherly’s “Danny Boy”), and “French Pot-au-feu” (“C’est toi! C’est moi!” by Georges Bizet), along with selections from Spain, Italy, Germany, the United States, and the Mediterranean region.

Prior to joining the MSU faculty in September 2004, Fracker performed regularly in opera houses and concert halls throughout the world, including 10 seasons and more than 160 performances at the New York Metropolitan Opera. He appeared in 14 Live from the MET international and national radio broadcasts, performing 17 roles at the MET including the tenor lead in the Metropolitan Opera’s debut production of Philip Glass’s The Voyage.

Nathan first gained national attention making his debut at the Washington Opera on one day's notice for an indisposed conductor in Verdi's Otello, which led to his being given more than 40 performances of eight productions at the company. His work with the Washington Opera Chorus brought him and the ensemble international attention.
