On Jan. 26 and 27 University of Iowa Mock Trial (UIMT) team 1479 competed in the ninth annual Big Red Invitational Mock Trial tournament hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. The team, captained by senior Katy Kinney and junior Edward Rodriguez, placed fifth overall with a 5-2-1 record and posted wins against Penn State University, Brandeis University, and Columbia University. Along with this top five finish, the team also garnered two individual awards for outstanding performance. Kinney received an outstanding attorney award and senior Megan Sherburne was awarded an outstanding witness award.

The success this team accomplished in the closing week of invitational competition will serve as the springboard as it heads into regional competition in February. With the post season around the corner all four UIMT teams have their eyes set on earning a bid to the opening round championships in March.
