Public invited to UI Veterans Reception Nov. 12

The contributions of the more than 900 University of Iowa faculty, staff, and student veterans will be recognized at a UI Veterans Reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in Room W401 of the Tippie College of Business' Pappajohn Business Building.

The UI Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity in the Chief Diversity Office, the UI Office of the Registrar, the UI Staff Council, and the UI Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost are sponsoring the celebration, which is free and open to the public.

UI Veterans Association President Gregory Touzani and UI Veterans Center Coordinator John Mikelson will make welcoming remarks.

Col. Todd Jacobus of the Commander, 67th Troop Command, Iowa Army National Guard, will provide the keynote address. Jacobus is an alumnus of the UI ROTC program, and father of a student combat veteran/Army ROTC cadet. He also serves as the chairman of the Iowa Veterans Commission.

Also featured this year will be Hugh Martin, Stegner Fellow at Stanford University who is also the winner of The Iowa Review’s 2012 first-ever Jeff Sharlet Memorial Award for Veterans presenting his winning poetry via video.

UI Chief Diversity Officer Georgina Dodge will receive a plaque and certificate of recognition on behalf of the UI’s designation as a Top Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs and Military Advanced Education.

The Air Force ROTC Cadet Color Guard will post and retire the colors at the beginning and end of this event. For more information or special accommodations to attend, call 319-335-0705.
