Several alumni of the University of Iowa Department of Dance will conclude a week of teaching and rehearsals with two performances of works they are creating and performing across the country at 8 p.m. Friday to Saturday, Nov. 9-10, in Space Place Theater of North Hall.

The performances are open to the public and no tickets are required.

The Dance Alumni Week performances will include:

  • Look at What You’re Missing and No Filter by Sabetha Mumm (Bachelor of Arts 1998), whose major performances include the 1992 World Jazz Dance Congress, the 1996 American College Dance Festival, and 14 UI galas and concerts.
  • The Divide by Amy Lynne Barr (Master of Fine Arts 2011), who has performed and choreographed for companies in Indiana, Arizona, and Iowa. Her performances at the UI included the premiere of Martha Clarke's In the Night last fall.
  • Composition #43 Section B by Rain Ross (Master of Fine Arts 2008), who has performed with ballet and contemporary companies including the Playhouse Dance Company in South Africa, and has worked with such choreographers as Toni Pimble, David Dorfman, Wade Madsen, Hannah Wiley, and Deanna Carter.
  • Separate Suite by Phillip Ollenburg (Bachelor of Science 2009), who is with Nomi Dance Company in Chicago. He was a founding member of Kayle + Company, allowing him to perform original work at Link’s Hall in Chicago and Joyce SoHo in New York.
  • Ode by Diego Carrasco Schoch (Master of Fine Arts 2005), who is a performer, guest artist, choreographer, and educator now based in Raleigh/Durham. He operates CarrascoDanceWorks, and has created original dances for a variety of organizations and venues.
  • I think I no you from some knowhere (excerpt) by Eleanor Goudie-Averill (Master of Fine Arts 2007), who now directs the Stone Depot Dance Lab, and dances for McArthur Dance Project and Group Motion Dance Company in Philadelphia. She is currently adjunct faculty at Temple University and has served as a visiting faculty member at Bucknell University.
  • Thrown by Kirsten Kaschock (Master of Fine Arts 1998), a published poet and novelist (with Slope Editions, Ahsahta Press, and Coffee House Press) who has worked as a freelance choreographer and master teacher in the Northeast.
  • Poetry by Jennifer Medina (Master of Fine Arts 2002), who spent most of her performing career with the Wylliams-Henry Contemporary Dance Company in Kansas City, and she recently founded Common Thread Contemporary Dance in St. Louis. Her choreography has been performed throughout the United States, and she recently was commissioned by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.
