Annual event to be held in Iowa City Oct. 21-23
Thursday, October 18, 2012

University of Iowa students may participate in professional seminars and workshops during the 2012 Iowa Museum Association (IMA) annual conference, Sunday, Oct. 21 through Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Iowa City. This year’s event is hosted by UI Pentacrest Museums.

Each year, the IMA conference gathers museum professionals, vendors, and volunteers from all over the state, including historical societies, art galleries, and museums of history and natural history. This year, UI students can sign up for individual sessions at a discounted price of $10 at the front door of the Old Capitol Museum before each session.

The conference will also feature a “Student Opportunities in Iowa Museums” event from 3:30–5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame, located in the Roy G. Karro Building near Melrose and Mormon Trek in Iowa City. Students looking for museum jobs and internships throughout the state will be able to meet with museum professionals, practice their interviewing skills, and apply for current openings.

The Student Opportunities event will be followed, from 5:30-8 p.m., by a Tailgate Opening Reception, also at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame. The tailgate will include a visit from Herky and UI cheerleaders.

The Iowa Museum Association website includes a complete listing of conference seminars and workshops.
