The top bands of the University of Iowa School of Music will take center stage with the annual Band Extravaganza at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Band Extravaganza is a popular showcase for the Johnson County Landmark (JCL) jazz band, the Symphony Band, and the Hawkeye Marching Band.

Under the direction of John Rapson, JCL will perform Yearnin’ by Oliver Nelson; De Onde Vens/Eu não Existo sem Você by Dori Caymmi/Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by Roberto Sion; and the traditional Down by the Riverside, arranged by Oliver Nelson.

The Symphony Band, directed by School of Music professor Mark Heidel, will play The Star Spangled Banner, arranged by John Philip Sousa; Olympic Fanfare and Theme by John Williams, arranged by Jame Curnow; Cuban Overture by George Gershwin, arranged by Mark Rogers; and The Circus Bee by Henry Fillmore.

The extravaganza will culminate with highlights from the 2012 marching season by the Hawkeye Marching Band, directed by Kevin Kastens. Drum Major Quentin Marquez, Golden Girl Whittney Seckar-Anderson, the Iowa Dance Team, the Iowa Cheerleaders, and Herky will all perform at this event.
