The University of Iowa College of Law publicly launched its Iowa Inspired campaign last Friday, Sept. 28, announcing that $28 million of the $50 million campaign goal had been raised so far.

More than 200 alumni, friends, and supporters of the Iowa law school gathered for the kickoff to hear the progress-to-date announcement. Attendees also heard from college and campaign leaders about the importance of the fundraising campaign to the students, faculty, programs, and alumni of the school.

UI College of Law Dean Gail B. Agrawal calls the campaign a chance for the school to build on its foundation of innovation.

“The Iowa law school stands on a foundation of innovation,” Agrawal says. “But the field of law and legal education have changed, and continue to change. Our campaign seeks to secure the resources we need to move forward again as innovators—of teaching, of scholarship, and of the programs that help arm our students with the skill-sets they need to lead in their professions, whether in the courtroom, the boardroom, or beyond.”

Iowa Inspired is designed to secure significant funding for student and faculty support, programs within the law school, and a new student commons in the Boyd Law Building. The campaign is being conducted by the Iowa Law School Foundation, and is led by a volunteer committee co-chaired by UI College of Law alumni C. Dana Waterman III and Robert E. Youle.

“With the help of the Iowa law school’s most dedicated alumni and friends, Iowa Inspired can provide the college with the resources it needs to excel,” Waterman says.

“Our campaign will help assure that future generations of Iowa law students will benefit from the same educational rigor, innovation, and problem-solving passion that shaped our careers and that make Iowa one of the most respected public law schools in the country,” Youle says.

The UI acknowledges the Iowa Law School Foundation and the UI Foundation as the preferred channels for private contributions. For more information about Iowa Inspired, visit uifoundation.org/iowainspired.
