Oct. 28 performance makes use of firecrackers, 'reverse tap dancing'

The University of Iowa Percussion Program rehearses the piece Edgard Vaerse in the Gobi Desert, composed by Paul Elwood, who recently visited campus, for a video that will be put on display at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, N.M. The video will be featured in an exhibit titled "Falling Without Fear: New Media in a New World."

A public performance of the piece by the percussion program will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 at Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus as part of the UI School of Music's "Percussion from Outer Space."

Dan Moore, professor of music and percussion area head at the UI, will conduct.
