Free Oct. 7 concert is in the Riverside Recital Hall

Faculty oboist Andrew Parker will be the featured soloist in a free concert by the University of Iowa Chamber Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in the Riverside Recital Hall.

William LaRue Jones, director of orchestral studies for the UI School of Music, will be joined by graduate students Chun-Ming Chen and Hyeyoun Jang as the conductors of:
--The Prelude to Act III of Tristan und Isolde by Richard Wagner.
--Dance of Galanta by Zoltan Kodaly
--The Concerto for Oboe in D major by Richard Strauss.

Chen, who was born in Taiwan, has been co-director of the Ithaca College Sinfonietta and director of the MIT Chinese Choral Society. He recently conducted the Coe College Symphony Orchestra, and he is the orchestra manager for the UI Symphony. Jang is the symphony's head librarian.
