Panel discussion kicks off Oct. 12-14 events

The free events presented by the University of Iowa International Writing Program Friday-Sunday, Oct. 12-14, will open with a panel discussion, “Works in Progress,” at noon, Friday, Oct. 12, in the Iowa City Public Library.

Other events include:

  • A reading at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, in the Shambaugh House at 430 N. Clinton St.
  • A reading at 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14, in Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City.

The library panelists will be fiction writer/playwright Christopher Mlalazi from Zimbabwe, fiction writer Barlen Pyamootoo from Mauritius, poet/essayist Luis Bravo from Uruguay, and fiction/nonfiction writer Milagros Socorro from Venezuela. They will discuss their works in progress with Richard Wiebe, director of the Works-In-Progress project. Pizza and beverages will be offered.

In the Shambaugh House event, South Korean writers Choi Myoung Sook and Hae Yisoo will read from their works. Refreshments will be served.

IWP residents Pandora (Burma) and Lin Chun Ying (Taiwan) will be joined by Iowa Writers' Workshop student James Molloy for the Oct. 14 event in Prairie Lights.
