A 40th anniversary is certainly something to sing about, and Hancher has found the perfect vocalist for the celebration.
The University of Iowa’s performing arts presenter will present Brian Stokes Mitchell on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort Event Center.
“Stokes,” as the performer likes to be called, is a star of stage and screen. He won a Tony Award for his performance in Kiss Me, Kate and is also well known for his performance of “The Impossible Dream” in Man of La Mancha. On television, he was a cast member on “Trapper John, M.D.” and has appeared on “Fraiser” and “Glee.” He was also featured in the animated film The Prince of Egypt.
The New York Times calls him “the last leading man,” while Variety says, “His voice is a richly tailored, warm, and resonant instrument, capable of caressing the kind of melody that has staying power.”
The performance by Brian Stokes Mitchell is the first of four events that Hancher has designated as 40th anniversary presentations. The others include Pilobolus Dance Theatre (Nov. 13-14), Sonny Rollins (April 2), and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (June 15).

How to get tickets
Tickets are $42 and $37 for non-students and seniors; $37.80 and $10 for college students; and $21 and $10 for youth. Tickets are available from the Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Town Center near the parking ramp.
