Corwell has worked diligently during his 31 years as a professional musician to gain recognition for the euphonium as a solo instrument. As part of this effort, he has presented more than 1,000 solo euphonium recitals, and given hundreds of brass demonstration concerts in public schools to introduce students to the beauty and technical capability of the euphonium and other brass instruments.

He regularly appears across the United States and overseas as a soloist and clinician, and has recorded several CDs featuring his arrangements and original works. To date, nearly 60 of his compositions, most of them for euphonium or other brass instruments, have been published.

Corwell served as euphoniumist with the U.S. Army Band (known as “Pershing's Own”) in Washington, D.C., from 1981 to 1989. He taught at Shepherd University and Frostburg State University, earned a doctoral degree in euphonium performance and pedagogy at the University of Maryland under the tutelage of Brian Bowman, and served on the executive committee of the International Tuba Euphonium Association and on the board of the Women’s Brass Conference.
