Opportunity for students to meet local leaders
Friday, September 21, 2012

The University of Iowa will hold a campus and community Sustainability Rally in the Kinnick Stadium press box from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.

Students will have an opportunity to meet sustainability leaders from campus and the community with the goal of forging lasting service-learning relationships.

Student leaders from the UI Environmental Coalition, Engineers for a Sustainable World, ECO Hawks, and the Sierra Student Coalition will be present.

Community leaders from the City of Iowa City, Iowa City Summer of Solutions, and the Backyard Abundance program will also attend.

UI faculty and staff will include representatives from UI President Sally Mason’s office, Facilities Management, the Sustainability Curriculum Advisory Committee, the Water Sustainability Initiative, and the Office of Sustainability.

Organizers will also introduce the new Sustainable Citizen Program, which helps students learn how to identify potential sustainability challenges on campus and in the community. The program trains students to be sustainability literate, math inclined and information savvy as a means to create sustainable citizens who can think systematically and dialogue democratically.

Space is limited and confirmation of attendance is required. To register, any UI student can visit www.uiesw.org/rally. Rally attendees will enter Gate D on the west side of Kinnick Stadium and be guided to the McCord Club Lounge on the first level of the Paul W. Brechler Press Box. Parking is available at hospital ramps 2 and 3.
